Sleep science holds an enormous potential. By improving our sleep, we can gain better health, become smarter and more creative and even benefit the economy. That's why I'm really exited about sleep tech such as nap pods and meditation apps. Just 20 minutes of rest during the day is enough to make a tremendous difference for people across the world.

The hidden health crisis

Lack of sleep costs lives everyday. In the health care industry, doctors are falling asleep behind the wheel after long workshifts, and in mission-critical operations, sleep deprivation is the culprit of disasters of infinite magnitude (think about Exxon-Valdez).

Luckily, the cure against this silent health crisis is simple: Napping during the day. We need to reinvent the siesta, so that we follow our inherent circadian rhythm (yes, all humans fell drowsy at some point during the day). Of course, napping is as simple as lying down and closing your eyes, but there's more to it than that: If you are at work, you need permission to nap, as well as a place to do it. And if you are at home, maybe you need a way to unwind and relax. Sleep tech can help with all of this.
